What are Victims Rights?

The terms “victims” and “victims rights” are used by many special interest groups in the pursuit of their own (often political) agendas.

Universally, the most healthy understanding of “victims rights” is that every victim has the right to heal and become a whole person again.  Acceptance and forgiveness is a healthy part of the healing process, although often the most difficult.

From that most basic understanding, everything beyond that goal (of healing) is a reflection of that group’s own self-serving agenda.  A truly healing process should include restoring stability in daily functions, improving resiliency to cope with change, gaining insight into one’s capabilities and vulnerabilities, and releasing anger.
